A Design competition was held at the Binga ITC from April to June 2003, with a number of objectives in mind

  • to identify artists within the community and introduce them to graphic design by computer
  • to provoke thought and ideas relating to mulonga and Tonga culture
  • to offer local artists the chance to show their work on the website
  • to improve the general image of the centre by attractive wall paintings

Prizes offered were a free Introduction to Graphic Design course, which included the use of shapes, colours, layout and scanning, the Winning entry to be displayed on website and the Opportunity to join the ITC team for a weekend of fun and painting!

Danayi Chivandire was the winner, with a well thought-out and very creative picture of new technologies (computer) emerging from the old (drum/ngoma), and riding a wave of the river (mulonga) of information. Danayi is also involved in the Cipego ('gift') Theatre Group, a new young outfit who stage performances in Binga quite regularly. Danayi is a student of Manjolo Secondary School, Binga.
