Binga and Siabuwa communities celebrating better access to ICT

On Friday, 6th May 10 am at Siabuwa High School in Siabuwa, Binga, The school and community is set to officially receive a sixty panel solar power plant that will power up its computer lab while providing power for students and the community to study in the evenings. The solar panel installation will be handed over together with a clean drinking water plant at the school. This project was funded by Rotary Club Linz, working together with The Rotary Club Belmont and Rotary International and facilitated by Basilwizi Trust – Tonga.Online Project.

On Saturday, 7zh May, at the Binga Community Library in Binga, the local authority, Binga Rural District Council (BRDC) will officially receive a set of 15 computers with flat screens on behalf of the Binga Community. Running on Ubuntu Linux and networked, these computers form a Public Access Point (PAP) for the Binga Community for easier access to information and communication tools. Funded by Austria Zimbabwe Friendship Association and the Austrian Development Cooperation, the project was facilitated by Basilwizi Trust – Tonga.Online Project and BRDC.

Siabuwa Solar Project installation complete

It is exciting to hear that the solar power installation at Siabuwa Secondary School and ITC is complete. This is indeed good news for the Zambezi Valley communities, in particular, for Siabuwa.

Edson Ngaaseke from Rotary Club Belmont in Bulawayo, who is the local Rotary Club sponsoring the Siabuwa project in a tri-partite arrangement with Rotary Club Linz and Rotary International, wrote to Andreas Knerr of Madison Solar Engineering in Mutare: "On behalf of Belmont Rotary Club and Rotary Linz Sued I thank you for a full report and salute your commitment to ensure the project is completed within the agreed time frame".

Joint Rotary visit to Siabuwa ITC

During the last week of April an important step towards the implementation of solar power for Siabuwa ITC was undertaken. Two delegates from Rotary Club Linz in Austria, Mr. Karl Schwaha and Ludwig Mülleder, visited their counterpart, Rotary Club Belmont in Bulawayo for the first time. This get-together and extensive introductions to the Club was laying the ground for a good relationship and a sound evaluation of the three bids received for the technical execution of the project which received funding from Rotary International as well. Thereafter both Clubs went on a joint visit to remote Binga and Siabuwa, facilitated by Basilwizi Trust and its Tonga.Online staff. They met a rousing welcome with Ngoma Buntibe music and dance setting the tune for a successful mission. Read a first quick report by Richard Simango.
