WorldRemit, BarnfordsWhile we’re not experts on global remittance and have no idea how HomeLink is doing, we found this piece of news interesting and the service potentially superbly convenient for those of you in the Diaspora.

A press release on PRWeb posted today by WorldRemit says the UK based company has launched an internet based money transfer service for Zimbabweans and Zambians living abroad. In Zimbabwe, WorldRemit has launched the service in partnership with a local company called Barnfords Global and Financial Services Limited.

WorldRemit is an online money transfer business enabling customers to send money to family and friends using various payments options including debit cards, credit cards and cash. The company currently offers money transfer services to 25 countries.

According to the release, the new service’s unique selling point is the elimination of complex money transfer procedures by allowing the remitting person to send money safely and easily from home through the internet. Recipients in Zimbabwe can collect the cash from Barnfords pay-out points in Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare. There’s no mention how long it takes for the transfer to go through but if it’s internet based, we imagine it should be a few minutes.

Commenting on the launch, Barnfords General Manager, Eunice Kurangwa had this to say: “This product is exciting news for us, bearing in mind the busy schedules of our fellow Zimbabweans abroad, who will now be able to transfer money at their convenience as it is internet-based. Barnfords has been in business for more than 14 years. We at Barnfords, provide instant payout at our locations which are easily accessible and provide a neat, safe and friendly environment.”

It’s interesting how this compares to popular money transfer services like Western Union and MoneyGram.
