The Binga ITC purchased a surge protector adapter to prevent the computers from being affected by power surges. Plans to procure a new power supply units are under way.

Training of the pupils at the school started. A total of 699 pupils (345 males and 354 girls) were enrolled for the Information and Technology at the school. 40 Lessons of 35 minutes each were scheduled per week to cater for all the pupils.

Contrary to the pupils training, the community training had not started because school was:

Working on viable business plans,
Adapting to migrate from Microsoft office 2000 to Open Office (FOSS) and
Servicing the machines.

The handover of the computer network and operative systems for Binga High was done on the 22nd  January 2007 to the Binga High School by Uwe Allgäuer the technician who was leaving the country.

Dear all.

I hope you all had a pleasant easter holiday.
Binga is peaceful. Civil servants are busy preparing for the elections which are just around the corner.

I would like to inform you that the district got 20 additional computers and 4 printers from the President. Ten of these computers and two printers are for Binga Highschool. Whilst the other 10 and 2 printers are for Sianzyundu secondary school. What a good gesture for the district. This donation will go a long way in reducing the high student computer ratio in the beneficiary schools. Plans to assist schools to set them up are underway.

Regards

Dear all

An ICT sensitisation meeting for stakeholders was held on the 20th of March 2008. The meeting was attended by 16 participants from different government departments, CBOs and NGOs. Such crucial meeting are meant to enlighten our stakeholders and partners what the project entails and remove some misconceptions or beliefs that the project just donates computers. The meeting looked at the following Issues:

-Tonga.Online activities / setup.
-Current events in the project
-Internet services in the district
-Services offered by Twimbilane Studio and
-Stakeholders needs assessment

As a way of assessing the stakeholders' comprehension of the project, a question was posed that is WHAT DOES TONGA.ONLINE DO in the district?

Mixed views were aired out. With some of the answers provided were not very specific such as:

It carries out developmental projects in the district,
It helps the people of Binga in their projects. Of course some of the participants had slight ideas on what the project is all about but more and detailed knowledge on the project was necessary to pass on.

From a general assessement carried out, these sensitisation meetings are very vital if our stakeholders are to understand our mission. Once people are broadly enlightened about the project, the demand driven approach to development and confidence will be enhanced in our stakeholders. People lack confidence in demanding for a service simply because they wont or they will be having scanty knowledge on the organisation's dealings.

The next level of the sensitisation meeting will focus on the community, schools and the community in general.

A detailed report on the meeting is being compiled and will be made available to every body.

Be blessed
