Africa University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is inviting interested individuals, groups and institutions in the academy and the arts to submit abstracts for works to be presented at the 3rd Annual Festival of the Arts and Culture to be held in Mutare, Zimbabwe on 1217 March  2007. Abstracts for paper presentations should be not more than one page, and in the case of artists, abstracts must be accompanied by a portfolio of work to be presented at the festival. Deadline for submission is 21 January 2007.

   Africa University is a United Methodist church related institution located in the Eastern Highlands City of Mutare, Zimbabwe. The festival will run for a week and there will be a variety of art forms, performances, academic lectures and seminars. The festival will draw participants, including artists and academics from Zimbabwe and abroad.
  Art forms to be showcased will include the following:

    * Sculpture  and ceramics
    * Fine art, photography, watercolors, batiks and tie & dye,
    * Drama & Theatre: plays and musical theatre.
    * Comedy: improvisation, stand up & interactive comedy.
    * Music and song: traditional, western, pop, jazz, choirs.
    * Dance: traditional, ballroom and modern.
    * Film: features, docudramas and documentaries.

Academic activities will include:

    * Literary presentations.
    * Poetry: recitations and performance poetry.
    * Practical Skills Workshops (scriptwriting for stage, film and television, music)
    * Special seminar on Art, Culture and Development and HIV/AIDS.
    * Public Lectures.

The performances and academic activities are meant to promote intellectual analysis and discussion on the role of arts and performance in the lives of African people. In addition, the festival is intended to nurture and assist African citizens to develop a sense of appreciation for the arts and culture.

VENUE: Africa University, Mutare Zimbabwe.
