Post by: Peter Kuthan / AZFA on September 21 2011
Harare. - The fourth edition of the Kujatana Nkubotu 21.1km Peace Half
Marathon has been postponed to Saturday 22 October, 2011. The race was
initially scheduled for 24 September 2011.

Race organisers, Twalumba Foundation say the decision to delay the
race is meant to accommodate professional athletes taking part in
international competitions.

Some Zimbabwean professional athletes were in Maputo for the All
Africa Games and other athletes will be travelling to South Africa to
participate in the City to City and Cape Town Marathons to be held on
18 and 25 September respectively.

“The Kujatana Nkubotu route is now recognized by the International
Association of Athletics Federations, so the times to be set will be
recognised worldwide. Therefore, we want as many professional athletes
who ran last year to participate,” said Pottar Muzamba – the Twalumba
Foundation national coordinator.

Registration for the race has been extended to 30 September 2011. To
date, over six hundred athletes have registered.

The Kujatana Nkubotu peace half marathon is run annually in Binga to
commemorate the International Day of Peace.

Muzamba said one thousand athletes that include amateur athletes,
school children and running enthusiasts from Binga are expected to
take part in the race.
