It has taken the “less government, more private enterprise” crowd only a few decades to bring a colossal disaster down upon the world. An economic, ecological and social mess that will take many years and a huge amount of money to clean up. The only thing that’s still unclear is where we go from here. While politicians are busy exhibiting a truly astonishing lack of vision, the captains of capitalism have taken up right where they left off before the meltdown. So it’s no wonder that more and more people are withdrawing into the private sphere to seek their happiness in shopping, Web-2.0 relationships and package-deal tourism. Nevertheless, they’re out there. The optimists and idealists. The ones who refuse to just stand idly by while everything goes down the tubes. Those who are developing plans for alternative futures, plans that, instead of going back to nature, are blazing trails towards new horizons. On May 20, 2010, Peter Kuthan (sociologist and chairman of the Austria Zimbabwe Friendship Association) and Horst Hörtner (director of the Ars Electronica Futurelab) will host a Deep Space LIVE dedicated to countervailing concepts. Here, the accent will be on emerging ideas and promising visions, high potentials and young talents. Deep Space LIVE The Ars Electronica Center is now hosting a Deep Space LIVE event every Thursday (except holidays) at 8 PM. Each presentation will feature ultra-high-definition imagery in 16x9-meter format and will be accompanied by expert commentary, entertaining stand-up repartee, and musical improvisation. Whether great works from the history of art, space travel, journeys of discovery in the Nanoworld, or a live concert is what you’ve come to behold, Deep Space LIVE stands for enlightening entertainment amidst breathtaking worlds of imagery. Admission (including an accompanying person) is €2. Holders of a valid Museum ticket are admitted free of charge.
